Hustle & Bustle in Steelhead

Sheriff Fuzz found Lunar and me sitting on the curb outside of the Hotel after setting up the aviation display in conjunction with the Library's exhibit. We must have been looking rather forlorn as he said something about us loitering. I suggested that if we were panhandling, that would have been a problem, and we promptly asked him for a few lindens. You can guess what his answer was...
We ended up on the pier docks in the Tackle Company shop at the Steelhead Navy's Recruitment Center in Port Harbor. I really enjoyed building the Cannery Row-inspired structures and Lunar speaks more on that HERE. I was creating a "Made in Steelhead" crate that can be placed around. If you'd like your own free copy of it, do visit the Offices...And in preparation for the tinies dogfight event in Port Harbor on July 1, Lunar created a rather fantastic floating runway. Zoe joined Lunar, Tensai and me as it was being constructed...

Steelhead Steampunk Exhibit

I managed to catch the steampunk exhibit curated by Mr Bartleby Kidd at the Steelhead Public Library just before it closed. It was a very well-thought out and planned overview and the notecards made for good reading later.

1891 Isabella Stewart Gardner Worth Gown Available to Benefit Library

In conjunction with my exhibit at the main library in Caledon, my reproduction of Isabella Stewart Gardner/Mrs Jack's 1891 Worth gown--which uses a texture from the original dress' textile--is now available for sale for 1000L. 100% of the proceeds go to benefit the Caledon Library/Alexandrian Free Library system, which has helped to educate and provide libraries not just in Caledon, but throughout the grid. You may find vendors to purchase it at the Whitehorn Memorial Library in Victoria City or at my main shop near the hub in Caledon Regency.

Exhibit Openings and Armed Paddleboats

Today was the opening of my exhibit at the Caledon Library! I was so tickled that there was such a good turnout! Gabi played my interview on her podcast, Voices in the Machine, where you can hear me discuss the exhibit, my working process and a roundtable discussion about designing Victorian fashion with Mr Nix Sands, Miss Fuchsia Begonia, and Lord Edward Pearse. It is a lot of fun to listen to. Everyone seemed to really themselves and the exhibit will be up until the end of March. A thank you to all who came out today to see it...Afterwards, I thought I would relax at Laval Point. I saw Col. O'Toole going by on one of his new little Mosquito paddleboats by Miss Commons. We chatted for a moment and he is settling in well at his new home here in Steelhead. If you'd like a paddleboat of your own, stop by his home's dock on the rock at Polymath Eyrie and look for a wooden box. It's only 1L, seems like a lot of fun and oh--did I mentioned it is ARMED?

Victorian Fashion Exhibit in Caledon

Tomorrow, 12/7, will be the opening of my exhibit "The Past Reimagined: Victorian Fashion and the Designs of Eladrienne Laval" at the Whitehorn Memorial Library in Caledon Victoria City from 1-3 pm SLT... With the assistance of head librarian Sir JJ Drinkwater, we put together a retrospective of my work (I have created over 75 pieces since I started designing) giving you an idea of how a piece goes from historic source images and sketches to a final ensemble. It will discuss inspirations and give a side-by-side look. I also created an exhibit about Paris' first "couturier" who revolutionized dressmaking and fashion, Charles Frederick Worth...
With the help of library curator Miss Siri Woodget, we are also presenting an exhibit about one of Worth's wealthy patrons, Boston socialite Isabella Stewart Gardner, who is shown wearing her favorite Worth gown in this photograph...And here I am in the reproduction of it that I created, which uses the texture from its actual fabric. If you attend the salon discussion and opening tomorrow, you will have a chance to win this stunning dress. The exhibit will run until March 1, but I do hope to see you there!

An Evening of Meetings

I seemed to spend my evening inworld going from meeting to the next. The first was with Caledon's head librarian, Sir JJ Drinkwater, who asked me to be involved in developing an exhibit about the inspirations behind my work with an auxiliary exhibit about the work of the great couturier Charles F. Worth. It will be opening (hopefully) just before the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday and promises to be interesting...
Afterwards, I headed over to Steelhead, where--due to extreme lag tonight--the meeting was moved from Town Hall to outdoors in Boomtown, which was a rather interesting change of scenery. We were filled in on the last of the Scary Story events (tomorrow at 7, come hear!), progress on Port Harbor and the LL void sim issue. As Steelhead has no void sims, it will not be directly affected......something that was in direct contrast to the second town meeting the Guvnah held that I attended in Caledon. One again, concerned citizens had flocked to hear the news. The Guvnah was open, as always, about the nature of things and is trying his best to think of solutions in the face of this announcement. I believe it is a lot is wait and see. Yes, Caledon--like so many other themed communities--will be certainly affected, but it will not be the end of the community itself. Thanks for talking to your citizens and keeping us informed.

Gothic Fashion at FIT

This is only slightly OOC, as it does pertain to Victorian fashion in a way. My RL sister is a fashion merchandising student at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in NYC. We discussed her recent homework assignment regarding the school museum's "Gothic: Dark Glamour" exhibit that recently opened. I went there briefly myself after undergrad for their design program and remember being taken behind the scenes of this museum--the only one in NYC dedicated to fashion. Imagine being surrounded by carefully preserved pieces--both historic and modern. I was in heaven. The current exhibit is a mix of both as well, discussing gothic fashion's roots and current incarnations, with include Lolita, cyberpunk and steampunk. It will be there until February '09, so if you are interested, go see it if you are there.

Fractured Fairy "Tails" Exhibit & Storytelling in Steelhead!

The Steelhead Hotel & Ballroom has been transformed into a fantasy wonderland in anticipation of its upcoming "Fractured Fairy Tails" art exhibit and storytelling festival this week starting today, featuring both Steelheader and Caledonian creatives such as Miss Katat0nik Pidgeon, Mr Gryffin Hax, Mr Hotspur O'Toole, Miss Elegia Underwood, Miss AutoPilotPatty Poppy, myself, and more...

Crystal Palaces Beckon

My old acquaintance from Kittiwick, Mr Mako Magellan, asked me if I would participate in The Great Exhibition that he has organized in a beautiful version of the 1851 Crystal Palace. How could I not? You really must visit as many Caledonians are represented in various themed areas throughout!

New Inkyboy Gallery Regency Exhibit: "Burgeonesse"

As curator of the Inkyboy Gallery Caledon Regency located just off that sim's hub, I would like to announce Gryffin Hax's latest exhibit, just in time for Spring: "Burgeonesse"

Vibrant, lush color photographs examining the blossoming panopoly of the plant world, arisen from the fecund, chthonic earth...

Come for the artwork, stay for the absinthe.

Dark Victorians Dia de Los Muertos Exhibit

I love being an active member of the Dark Victorians group. It suits me well, given my penchant for wearing either black or red. Tonight was the opening of the Dia de Los Muertos exhibit at the Tanglewood Bunneh Hutch. You'll find Muertos-inspired pieces created by Caledonians, such as my "poster" below......As well as artwork and an oferenda for artists Diego Rivera and Frieda Kahlo...You'll also find a box of amusing calavera (skeleton) skins by Miss StormChat Noir, similar to those in traditional paintings such as those by José Guadalupe Posada--whose work you will also be able to see examples of. Here I am dressed up as a calavera along with Doc Mason. For a while, the two of us sipped tequila and margaritas while exchanging bad skeleton puns and jokes (see below)...
