This is only slightly OOC, as it does pertain to Victorian fashion in a way. My RL sister is a fashion merchandising student at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in NYC. We discussed her recent homework assignment regarding the school museum's "Gothic: Dark Glamour" exhibit that recently opened. I went there briefly myself after undergrad for their design program and remember being taken behind the scenes of this museum--the only one in NYC dedicated to fashion. Imagine being surrounded by carefully preserved pieces--both historic and modern. I was in heaven. The current exhibit is a mix of both as well, discussing gothic fashion's roots and current incarnations, with include Lolita, cyberpunk and steampunk. It will be there until February '09, so if you are interested, go see it if you are there.

The Royal Society
Today I somehow found myself in Tamrannoch at the Royal Society of the Advancement of the Natural Sciences. If you have not been before, you really must visit as it is rather fascinating. The Honorable Lady Kate Nicholas has worked hard to present quite a collection...
It seems she is currently focusing on the mushroom species that have been popping up...
Upstairs I found the tomb of the Aegyptian queen-pharoah Hatshepsut....
And in the corner, could it be?? Oh...my...it can not be! I have read before that one of its secretive guardians in Aethiopia once ran away terrified and had to be brought back to its inner sanctum. I dare not touch or try to open it as I have heard things about the Host and faces melting as a result...

RL Cairns, Passage Tombs & Barrows
For some reason, the RL Elle has visited two different Neolithic-era passage tombs. These structures were believed to have been built around 3000 BC although their exact purposes are not known. Some were used as burial chambers and others for spiritual and astronomy purposes. While in Co. Meath, Ireland, I climbed quite a large "hill" to visit Cairn T of Loughcrew. This is a shot looking up once inside the chamber...
This is a shot of its equinox stone. The sunlight will hit directly on this stone upon the fall equinox. You can go to Newgrange if you'd like to see the winter solstice version...
This is Cairn U. Like inside Cairn T and the more famous Newgrange, you will find spiral carvings and other markings...
A few months ago, I attended a friend's handfasting in Kent, England held here at the Coldrum Longbarrow, also a neolithic structure from the same time period as the Irish ones...

Bienvenue! An Evening in Versailles
Dia and I were acting as on-air presenter and host for the Versailles Ball tonight. We headed over early for a very nice fashion show of era-appropriate ensembles...
Everyone looked lovely in their panniered dresses and powdered wigs...
There was a Caledon contingent there that included us, the Duke of Murdann, Miss Picnic, and Col. O'Toole. The Duchess of Carntaigh, Col. Exrex Somme and his wife Miss Christiansen were also present.
It was definitely interesting to see how another historical sim conducts their RP. Versailles is definitely a beautiful place and worth a visit.
